2011-07-06, Charles Centilli, Spencer Theater

Club president, Ross Ramsey rang the bell to open the meeting. Ross led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Jim Maxon gave the invocation.  Paul Comeau led the club in singing “What a Wonderful World.”  Then we sang “Happy Birthday” to Rotarians with July birthdays. Next, we greeted one another and learned later that our new president was the mystery greeter.  What a sneaky deal! We had no visiting Rotarians, but Charley Yaryan brought Mark Raphael as his guest.  Since it was his son-in-law, he paid a happy buck.

President Ross RamseySpeaking of happy bucks, the can received funds from Jim Scott, Jay Jordan, Bob McPherson, Denton Holmes, and Ross Ramsey.

Announcements & Business—Our club received a grant ($4,000) for the Peace Village from Rotary to assist homeless and disadvantaged children further their educations.  We also elected Jim Maxon to be a Director for 2011-12.Charles Centilli

The Program–Charles Centilli, Spencer Theater

Program planner for the month, Alex Keatts introduced Charles Centilli who is the executive director of the Spencer Theater in Ruidoso.  Charles is a fellow Rotarian, thus he was able to secure a make-up while he was our speaker of the day.  Charles was born in Texas and graduated from UT, Austin.

He started out by announcing that the Hondo fire (known as the Donaldson fire) was 90% under control.  “Everything is OK in Ruidoso.  So come on up.”

Kim Hakes pays a fineSpencer Theater specializes in live theater designed to enrich the community through fine performing arts.  It is a 501K non-profit organization.  The ticket prices cover about 35-40% of a show’s cost.  The rest is covered by public donations.  They do 40 shows a year.  The theater holds 500 seats. Performances come in a variety of forms from marching bands, impersonators of famous stars, a live performance by Pat Boone to a cabaret dinner setup on the stage with a singing chef and his staff.
