Past President Bill Harty opened the meeting at 12:15. He was acting in the place of Lya Jordan who is on vacation. Sherry Franzoy gave the invocation. The Pledge was recited. Patty Groth and Fran Boldt led the song “Hey Good Lookin’”. The group greeted each other during the Meet and Greet.
Sue Groth asked that Christopher Dulany pay a fine for having his picture in the SUN NEWS being recognized as one of three southern New Mexicans for the Albuquerque Business First 40 Under Forty program.
Bill talked about Aggie baseball having their final game and their 7 All-WAC players. Bob Seaton is keeping us up to date on his son Wesley who has been teaching in Atlanta and soon will be back and attempting to get into medical school. Fran Boldt said she is happy to have her grandson and also her mother-in-law with her today. Taste of Las Cruces tickets are still on sale. Patty said she attended the Pre-K graduation at Jardin de los Ninos this morning. Keith Houser talked about the Leaking Hands group which has raised $49,000 for homeless high school students. Visitor Olivia LeFevre thanked the Rotarians and said she thinks it a good group. (From last week: Larry Candelaria confirmed the county made May 9 his day. He said the county would like to honor more people who are active in volunteer and good works if they knew about them.)
It was announced that the funeral for Melissa Goss will be at the First Presbyterian Church, Saturday the 26 at 10 A.M.
The Program
Bill introduced Diana Davidson, the daughter of John and Virginia Davidson, who has donated funds to provide scholarships for Student Rotarians. (John Davidson was a member of this club.) Kristi Granados introduced each of the six students, who in turn introduced their guests. Kristi read a short list of each student’s achievements. Each student was given a $2,000 scholarship.
