2018-06-13, Club Assembly, 2018-19 Board and Committee Structure

Past President Ana Mangino filled in for President Lya Jordan. President Lya was off celebrating her 50th wedding anniversary with husband Jay Jordan. Past President Ana called the meeting to order at 12:09 pm. Jim Parks led the invocation and Past President Ana led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. In a joint effort Sue Groth, Fran Kemp and Blaine Goss led us through the 1936 version of Home on the Range. Guests Mark Mesh and Trina Davis were introduced and a meet and greet ensued.

Announcements & Happy Dollars

Richelle Ponder reported that about $14,000 was raised at Taste of Las Cruces which was held June 7 at the Las Cruces Convention Center. A total of 17 restaurants participated. Some changes to the event this years included inviting, almost exclusively, locally owned restaurants. Sixteen restaurants were locally owned, and one was a chain restaurant, Chili’s. Richelle also reported that part of the success of the event is that it gives chefs throughout the area and alumni from the NMSU Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management program a chance to reconnect. Richelle also reported that the silent and live auctions were very successful generating about $3000. Casa de Peregrinos did an excellent job with finding items for the auctions. The use of online tickets sales and a credit card reader also benefited the event this year. Online presale tickets brought in about $1200 in sales.

Daniel Payne and Richelle told jokes which both brought laughs to the group. Jim recited a pleasant poem for Barney, or Barry Fisher and thanked him for the computer. Patty, and the club gifted our waitress, Melanie, who is expecting a child any day now with a card and donations from the club, and boxes of diapers. Patty also had happy dollars for Daniel, who helped her parallel park. Past President Ana announced that there will be a board meeting tomorrow at noon at The Game I off Espina Street. Kristi Granados had two Happy Dollars, one because she is going to Idaho with her granddaughter, one for her husband who is happy she is going to Idaho.
