2011-02-02, Meeting cancelled due to bad weather

The great freeze of 2011 brought record low temperatures and rolling power blackouts.  Because of the latter and interest in the safety of our members, President Richelle cancelled this week's meeting.  The scheduled speaker, NMSU Police Chief Jaime Chavez, was rescheduled in March.

2011-01-26, Alexandra Glowacki, Antique and Art Appraisals

President Richelle called the meeting to order and asked Jim Maxon to give the invocation. He also told us of the passing of Lya’s mother. Lya and Jay you have our sympathy and prayers.

Songstress Janet Green said “we have such beautiful weather compared to the rest of the country” then selected “You are my sunshine” as our song.

After meeting and greeting, our mystery greeter, Don Dresp was identified. A dollar was collected from those who did not shake his hand.

2011-01-19, Jan Wimsatt, Home Instead Senior Care

President Richelle Ponder sounded the bell calling us to order. The invocation was given by Jim Maxon. The Prez lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Janet Green decided that since we pledge allegiance to the flag, we should also sing to it. Our song “You’re a Grand old flag”.

After a period of meeting and greeting, our mystery greeter, Charles Townley was identified and those who bypassed him put their dollar in the can. Every little bit helps.

2011-01-12, Steve Loman, Janet Green, and Howard Ness: Gubernatorial Inauguration

President Richelle Ponder called the meeting to order. Mel Parish gave the invocation and Prez Richelle lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Janet Green, our song leader selected “My country tis of thee”. From my corner of the room, it sounded good.

2011-01-05, Richard Heerema, NMSU Cooperative Extension Service

After President Richelle found the bell but not the gavel she used a spoon to ring the bell and call the meeting to order. Gene Jameson, a “ferner” (he is from somewhere in the US of A) gave the invocation. Our Prez lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance and Janet Green decided that we should Bless America, so we did. It must have been good because president Richelle said we sounded better from the podium.

2010-12-29, No meeting

Ross Ramsey led the club in singing his favorite holiday song, “It Came Upon the Midnight Clear.” Then we greeted one another and learned later that Connie Ames (a visitor) was the mystery greeter.

2010-12-15, Paul McQueary, San Juan Rotary Club

Club president, Richelle Ponder rang the bell to open the meeting. John Pickett gave the invocation. Richelle then led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Ross Ramsey led the club in singing “Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire.” Then we greeted one another and learned later that Rick Jackson was the mystery greeter. We had 4 guests of Rotarians, and one visiting Rotarian.

2010-12-08, LCHS Swing Ensemble

Due to the need to return to afternoon classes at school, our normal meeting agenda was altered to accommodate the student choir from Las Cruces High School.

2010-12-01, Paul Harris Fellow Presentations

Club President Richelle Ponder rang the bell to open the meeting. John Pickett gave the invocation. Richelle then led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Ross Ramsey led the club in singing “Jingle Bells.” Because of a full program and “tight quarters,” we had a very brief greeting-one-another period. In addition to the friends and family members of our Paul Harris honorees, we had 8 guests of Rotarians. The high school student guests were introduced or recognized.
