2013 International Student Picnic

The Rotary Clubs of Las Cruces and New Mexico State University International Programs invited Rotarians and Guests to the tenth annual International Student Picnic for international students at NMSU and their families and friends. About 1250 international students are at NMSU each year.  Nearly 60% are graduate students and many bring their families with them.  We expected about 200 students and guests to attend the picnic, but more than 250 people came!

The picnic was held Sunday, September 15, 2013, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Preciado Park on the NMSU Campus, adjacent to Williams and Stewart Streets, near campus family housing. The program included a picnic-style meal, greetings from representatives of the university and community groups, and a volleyball game.  A few pictures from the event are below, including the welcomes by NMSU President (and Rotarian) Garrey Carruthers, immediate past Rotary District 5520 Governor Mark Glenn, and representatives of all three clubs.  Also shown are a dance performance by students from Ecuador.  A special thanks to the NMSU Rotaract Club, who helped throughout the picnic and beyond, as you can see in the last cleanup picture.
